Questions

How much ease does the pencil skirt have?

1 cm at the waist and 4 cm at the hip, which is a close but walkable fit in woven fabric with a little stretch. The finished waist and hip are printed on the cover page so you can compare them with a skirt you already own.

Can I make a pencil skirt pattern without darts?

Not with this draft: the darts are what take in the difference between your waist and hip. If that difference is small (under about 12 cm) the darts come out short and narrow, and you can ease them into a stretch waistband instead.

What fabric should I use?

Medium-weight woven fabric with 2–3% elastane (stretch suiting, cotton sateen, ponte for a pull-on version without the zip). Make a test skirt from cheap fabric first if it is your first fitted skirt.
